Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 2020

Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 2020

Altesino has long been a benchmark producer in Montalcino, and the 2020 vintage is another classic in the making. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese grown on the estate’s best hillside vineyards, this Brunello embodies the balance, finesse and age-worthiness that have made Altesino a trusted name among collectors.

In the glass, it shows vibrant aromas of wild cherries, dried rose petals and hints of sweet spice. The palate is medium-bodied yet powerful, with layers of juicy red berries, subtle earthiness and polished tannins that promise graceful evolution over the next decade or more.

Pairing: Beautiful alongside roasted game, aged cheeses or hearty Tuscan stews.

Cellaring: Drink from release or cellar comfortably through 2035.

95 Points — Jeb Dunnuck

“The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is youthful in color and expressive in the glass, with notes of ripe strawberries, grenadine, crushed roses, sweet herbs and licorice candies. Medium-framed, it shows refreshing acidity, fine well-defined tannins and a clean, even finish with fantastic length. Elegant and refined, yet full of drinking pleasure, this is a highly appealing Brunello to enjoy over the next 15 years. I’d be thrilled to have bottles in my cellar to check in on regularly.”

95 Points — Wine Advocate

“Opening to earthy tones of brimstone and petrichor, the Altesino 2020 Brunello di Montalcino shows the character of a house style that is easily recognized. This elegant wine has a polished, smooth mouthfeel and finely tuned tannins. Oak is expertly managed, adding a hint of spice that integrates beautifully into the silky texture. Of the village Brunellos tasted from 2020, this stands out for its quality and is easy to find thanks to its ample release of 110,000 bottles.”

— Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (Nov 2024)

95 Points — James Suckling

“Very pretty and floral, with raspberries and black cherries on the nose alongside violet undertones. Medium-bodied with chewy yet polished tannins and a long, intense finish. Extremely well done for the vintage. Drink after 2026, but already solid.”
