Carmes de Rieussec 2018 Sauternes 375ml
Chateau Rieussec has benefited greatly from being owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (the same family behind Lafite). Since they took over in 1984, the vineyard area has grown from nearly 40 hectares to about 90 hectares. They've also invested in the cellars, allowing the winemaking team to better handle the different small lots from various parts of the vineyard. The vineyard is planted with 90% Semillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc, and 3% Muscadelle, and the wines are aged in about 50% new French oak barrels. The chateau also makes a second wine called Carmes de Rieussec, which focuses more on aromatic and citrus flavors. Barrels with these traits are chosen to become Carmes de Rieussec after 18 months of aging.
