Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2019
Poggio di Sotto is one of the most revered producers in Montalcino, known for crafting Brunello that marries finesse, aromatic purity, and age-worthy structure. Founded in 1989 and perched on the southeastern slopes of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the estate benefits from a unique microclimate that brings cooling breezes and significant diurnal shifts — ideal for long, slow ripening of Sangiovese.
The vineyards sit between 200 and 400 metres above sea level, planted exclusively to carefully selected Sangiovese clones. Farming is organic, yields are kept low, and the winemaking is traditional: long macerations, wild ferments, and extended ageing in large Slavonian oak casks.
Their Rosso di Montalcino often outperforms many producers’ Brunellos, while their Brunello and Riserva are benchmarks for elegance and longevity. Expect lifted aromas of sour cherry, dried rose, and herbs, supported by fine tannins and exceptional tension. Poggio di Sotto wines are graceful, detailed, and among the most collectible in all of Tuscany.
