Yeringberg Yeringberg 2022

Yeringberg Yeringberg 2022

Yeringberg stands as one of the great family-owned estates of the Yarra Valley, a property rich in history and deeply intertwined with the de Pury family for over a century. Their story is one of resilience, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to both viticulture and farming—one of the region’s most enduring legacies.

At the heart of their portfolio is the iconic Cabernet blend, a benchmark among the Yarra Valley’s finest. For nearly 50 years, this wine has eschewed sheer power in favor of restraint, detail, and quiet confidence. In 2022, Sandra de Pury has once again crafted a blend that exudes effortless elegance, yet beneath its poise lies a structure designed for longevity.

A true field blend, the 2022 release is composed of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, and 4% Cabernet Franc. Each variety is grown side by side, harvested at nature’s discretion, and vinified with a gentle touch. Fermented in small open-top tanks, the fruit spent 12–21 days on skins before maturing for 21 months in French oak (40% new). The result is a wine of polish and finesse—shaped by time, not intervention.

The nose is unmistakably Yeringberg: blackcurrant and plum, laced with violet, bay leaf, and cedar. A graphite-like savouriness adds depth, while the palate unfolds in waves of dark berries, cocoa, and dried herbs, framed by fine yet persistent tannins. A lingering freshness keeps everything lifted, reinforcing that this is a Cabernet blend built on precision rather than weight.

Right now, it is a wine of tension and promise, poised to evolve beautifully over the next 15–20 years. But for those who can’t wait, a long decant and a well-matched meal will reveal its charm. This is Yarra Valley Cabernet at its most refined—an estate at the peak of its craft.
